I tend to pick a POV scheme and stick to it for a story, in this case it’s all told from Katniss and Prim first person. That being said…there have been some vague discussions with a certain beta reader about maybe filling in some holes by writing outtakes from Peeta’s or Ryen’s POV. I’m really only considering it because there’s a wealth in that brother relationship that I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of by limiting myself to the girls’ POV. So I don’t know. The idea has been stewing but I make no promises.

Summary: Blue lines painted on the outside edges of alpine courses help guide skiers as they race downhill at high speeds, sometimes as fast as 70 mph. On freestyle ski courses, the blue lines provide contrast between sharp edges and blind dips in the course, giving airborne and sometimes upside down athletes a point of reference in an otherwise completely white set of obstacles. The lines are guides, not rules. You don’t have to stay inside the lines. Which is good, because Ryen Mellark’s never been too fond of rules…

Well, I wanted to have the chapter ready to post today, but that’s not gonna happen, so here’s a Six Sentence Sunday instead.

“So, it occurred to me while I was waiting what you can do to help me study,” I tell him as we stand and clean up the kitchen.

“I’m at your disposal,” he says with a smile.

“Good. Follow me.” I lead him to the living room and push aside the coffee table to make a wide space and turn to him. “Strip.”

“What?” he asks with half a laugh and I cross my arms.

“I learn better with visual aids.”

“Okay?” He seems uncertain but still removes his shirt, pausing to check that I actually mean it.

“Keep going.”

“What exactly is it we’re studying for again?” he asks as he pushes his sweatpants down to the floor and I let my eyes wander for a moment.

In modern au what kind of engagement and wedding ring would Peeta give Katniss? And how do you think Peeta would've proposed?

It depends on the story, Anon. I answered it for myself as part of that other ask, here’s a copy and paste of my answer:

In terms of a modern context…I actually had to think about this because the only time I think I’ve actually covered this in one of my stories was “Lay Me Down…” and that actually started with titania writing about his and me building off that for what hers would look like.

Anyways! I actually think Peeta would give her a pearl necklace for an engagement present. Then it’s something she could take off when she needs to. As for wedding rings, Katniss isn’t much for show and flash, and I agree. She’d probably find a big a old rock as a hindrance. I actually think she’d want her and Peeta’s wedding bands to be identical, and simple. I see them both wearing plain gold or white gold bands maybe with vines or something drawn on the outside and some kind of meaningful phrase inscribed in the inside. My most frequent head canon is that his says “Stay with Me” and hers says “Always”

In terms of how he would propose, again it depends on the story but my most frequent version in my head is that he’d set up something quiet and romantic with just him and Katniss. Like he cooks her dinner at home and then starts talking about how much she means to him and then one of two things happens.

1. She asks him the big question first because she can’t wait “Are you proposing?!”

2. She ;ets him get to the question but says “YES!” before he finishes asking. As in… “Katniss, Will you–” “YES!”

My other frequent head canon (see Wrapped in Red) is that she makes an offhand comment that blatantly tells him she wants to marry him before he’s even got his plans for proposing finalized in his head because he wants it to be perfect, and usually he’s really good with words but this is different. And then damnit she just blurts it out like it’s nothing.

I will always think Everlark are the hottest, especially your versions. It's "twoo love" how can any person with feelings not swoon (and then fan themselves and shift their legs uncomfortably.) I am so looking forward to this monster you are creating. Thinking of escape plan for the big read. -- cheapchinesebicycle

You still have a little more time to plan your escape. I’ve still got three scenes to write (and they’re kind of important) and then begins the epic editing. Because what the hell. I’m not sure what happened here. The word count just exploded, but there’s so much to be covered. Whatever, it’s Sunday and I’m glad you sent this to me. It made my day, so here you go, my friend:

“You have got to stop blaming only yourself for these things,” Gramps murmurs and enters the suite ahead of Peeta, who stands there and clenches his fist, resisting the urge to put it through the wall. He’s got bigger problems to deal with than his complete failure as a romantic partner.

“Who do you suggest I blame?” he asks as he opens his bedroom door and throws his bag in before turning back to face his grandfather.

“Just as it takes two to make a relationship work, it takes two to allow it to fail.”

“Nice,” Peeta says with a quirk to his lips. “You’ve been practicing that one all afternoon, haven’t you?”

“Perhaps a little,” Gramps says with a guilty tilt of his head. “Is it that obvious?”

“Was it that obvious on the phone that Lavinia and I broke up?”

“You brought another woman home,” Gramps says sardonically and Peeta sighs.

“A friend, Gramps. She was in trouble.”

It's weird. Never been into superheroes much but I saw a picture of superwonder (superman x wonderwoman) and it's giving me Everlark feels. Maybe because I like strong women taking strong men for a partner. If you're curious about the picture, it's their "selfie" taken while flying

Just read your opinion on Katniss' wedding ring. I agree. District 12 doesn't seem to have that kind of tradition. And considering how Katniss said that a couple in 12 doesn't feel married until they've had a "toasting", Everlark is probably traditional with regards to their engagement and wedding post-mj

I agree! The way she describes it and then how Peeta uses very similar language about the toasting during his interview with Caesar in Catching Fire…It definitely feels like Everlark would want a true to District Twelve traditions ceremony, for them. Something completely untouched by the Capitol.
